Enhancing your story
DNF WHO?
When was the last time you struggled to finish a book from your TBR pile?
Now take a quick second to consider why you might have been skimming pages, felt frustrated, or maybe even gave up altogether on reaching the end (and why you probably won’t be reading the next one).
The chances are pretty high that it had little to do with typos or grammar mistakes.
That’s where I come in.
Choose your own adventure
Find the service that meets your specific manuscript and budget needs by exploring the main three editing services below.
Are you struggling to finish your first draft and aren’t quite ready for editing yet? Check out my mentoring services to get the support and encouragement you need to reach that finish line!
Inciting Magic
Get feedback on the first 10k words of your manuscript.
This service is a great option for writers who are looking to enhance their opening chapters, looking to feel confident in the groundwork they’ve laid out for their plot, and discover any areas that might takeaway from grabbing and maintaining the reader’s attention.
This service includes:
Comments directly on your manuscript for the first 10k words.
A brief editorial letter giving an overview of your opening chapter(s) with suggestions and next steps/further resources.
Price: 375€
Manuscript Evaluation
A lighter approach to getting essential feedback on your manuscript in a way that is more affordable and less intensive.
This is perfect for authors who are looking for a general overview of their story’s strengths and to get insight on areas where they could get curious and expand their storytelling knowledge through a customized and informed editorial letter.
A manuscript evaluation offers a faster turnaround time and is great for those authors who prefer to set sail on their own with nothing but a helpful map in hand.
This Service includes:
An in-depth and lengthy editorial letter that covers the essential elements of your story (for example: plot, characters, pacing, conflict, romance, etc.) with specific educational content and suggestions that you can apply to your next draft at your own pace and discretion.
Price: starts at .02€/word
Developmental Edit
The full package! This is the complete story service that gives you feedback on a micro and macro level. This is the ideal editorial service for authors looking to self-publish and who want to give their book it’s best chance at success.
Developmental editing takes away the guesswork and offers guidance every step of the way — bridging the gap between the author and the reader. This collaborative phase of editing is the most intensive, creative, and in my personal opinion, the most fun! Developmental editing gives authors the chance to elevate both their skills and their story to achieve the vision that carried them through the drafting phases.
This Service includes:
An in-depth and lengthy editorial letter that covers the essential elements of your story (for example: plot, characters, pacing, conflict, romance, etc.) with specific educational content and suggestions that you can apply to your next draft at your own pace and discretion.
Comments directly on the manuscript that offer guidance and expands the reach of the editorial letter. This helps take away the guesswork of how to apply some of the suggestions made in the letter.
A 45-minute call scheduled within the 30 day window after receiving the feedback so we can discuss any further questions you might have and do further brainstorming if needed.
Price: starts at .05€/word
“The person who probably had the most input in this novel would undoubtedly be my developmental editor, Gabby Goodloe. Your ideas, suggestions, and advice have shaped a very rough piece into something I am proud of. Thank you.”

What you’ll learn
The Editing Roadmap
Step One: Contact Form
Once you fill out and submit the contact form located here, it’ll go right to my inbox (yay!). After I get a chance to review your information, you can typically expect a reply from me within 48 hours (not counting the weekends of course).
Step Two: Chat & Review
We’ll have fun getting to know one another and navigating your specific deadline needs, goals, and discussing what service might fit your story best.
During this process is usually when you’ll send me your full manuscript (if applicable) so I can either provide a sample edit for a fee of 35€ (that goes towards your final cost of editing should you choose to move forward), or I will evaluate the manuscript and prep the formal proposal.
Step Three: Sample Edit & Proposal
After reviewing the sample edit and/or the proposal and coming to an agreement, I’ll officially draw up the contract (now it’s getting really exciting!).
Step Four: Contract
The official contract arrives in your inbox where you can take your time looking it over, reviewing the start date and deadline details, payment plan, and confirming that everything is in order before signing it.
Please note that you should always have a contract when working with any industry professional. Stay safe out there authors!
Step Five: Deposit
After the contract is signed by the both of us, you’ll receive an invoice for either the initial deposit (this gets you added to my editing calendar) for a developmental edit, or you’ll receive an invoice for the full price of the Inciting Magic or Manuscript Evaluation service.
Step Six: Work Begins!
And bam! We’re moving and groovin! Now the work begins according to the agreed upon terms in the contract and we get to dive deep into the wonderfully creative world you’ve crafted.
FAQs
How do I know if I’m ready for a developmental editor?
Some positive signs that you are ready is first and foremost, you’ve taken the manuscript as far as you can on your own and you might even be at the point where you feel like banging your head against the wall (please don’t do that!).
Secondly, you’ve had other eyes on your manuscript (ideally from beta readers) and got some general constructive input that gave you a good starting point during your next round of revisions.
Thirdly, you’ve revised your manuscript at least twice all the way through. Developmental editing is intensive and educational, and we want you to get the most out of the experience! One of the best ways to set you up for success is to submit your strongest draft for editing.
You charge in euros but I live in the United States. Do you accept USD?
I used to live in the United States and all of my previous clients are used to me charging in USD (transitions are so weird, right?? I’m still getting used to it). My invoicing software will accept USD currency and convert it to euros all on it’s own (thank you technology!), but be sure to check the USD exchange rate to be better prepared for the final total when making your payment as the USD fluctuates.
Is there any content you don’t work on?
I work solely in fiction and I have the most experience and joy working in the fantasy and romance genres. While I have expanded my skills in the past, I take on exceptions on a case-by-case basis (to ensure I’m truly the right fit for you). I have worked on some YA, but keep in mind that I do prefer to work with mature content targeted towards adults.
In regards to triggering content: I do not work on stories that involve the death or torture of animals, romanticising of abuse (if you are unsure if this applies to you please ask in the contact form and provide details of your specific situation), any sexual abuse or open-door scenes involving minors, and I do not work on any content that perpetuates bigoted and prejudice views.
How do I get a sample edit?
Sample edits are available for full package developmental edits. They can be a great way to get an idea of my editing style and voice when it comes to comments on the manuscript and I love providing a sample to help ensure you feel confident in your investment.
You can request a sample edit when filling out the contact form and pay a fee of 35€ (or anytime after) that will go towards your final editing total should you choose to move forward with me. This fee is non-refundable and covers a sample edit of 1000 words that is submitted to you alongside an official project proposal.
My manuscript is almost finished. When should I reach out about editing services?
The earlier the better! Most services require 4-8 weeks of turnaround time and our calendars can fill up quite fast. I would highly suggest reaching to any editor at least three months before your ideal “start” date and keep in mind that flexibility is key. The only way to truly guarantee booking a very specific spot on someone’s calendar is to reach out six months or earlier (and sometimes even then we are backed up with waitlists).
Do you offer copyediting or proofreading services?
I adore this question because I appreciate that my clients love working with me so much! I wish I offered these services, but alas, you wouldn’t want me to. Grammar, spelling, and catching typos is not my strength. I do however have some incredible colleagues that I would be more than happy to refer you to that I am confident you will adore just as much.
